Steve Camp was one of the cutting edge artists in the 1980s up to the mid 1990s. What I mean by cutting edge was in regards to his message. His music is very piano-driven (my personal favorite) and is powerful especially combined with his lyrical style. In his early life, Steve became friends with Larry Norman and Larry taught him many things regarding songwriting and music which you can see through his early songs. He also met Keith Green who encouraged him to grow closer to Jesus and focus more on his ministry.

Steve was born April 13, 1955, in Wheaton, IL. He received Christ at age 5 and had a commitment to God throughout his teenage years. In 1977 Steve was signed to Myrrh Records under the strong show of self-produced tracks. He ended up doing 5 albums for Myrrh and left in 1983 and signed with Sparrow records for the majority of his music career. His music career is long and his credentials are longer -- I am sure he doesn't live in the past remembering all of them. He has toured extensively and sang with so many CCM artists over the years I really don't have space to list them all. Over the years, Steve Camp has endured various obstacles and tried to serve Jesus with everything that is in him. Has he always hit the mark? No, but the important thing is, he wants to. Sometimes the head knowledge and understanding of the evilness in the church may have caused him to be cynical and dismissive but Steve Camp still has a lot to say.

I would encourage anyone to grab any CD they can of this artist and listen to it or get it from iTunes if available. I would say you can download his songs from my radio station but you don't know when they are going to be played and of course the legality of it. None the less, Steve Camp encouraged my walk in Jesus at a younger age when I needed music to encourage me in my walk. It pushed me past the milk that most churches serve and unfortunately most of the CCM industry serves today.
